Strange, I don't have much problems with the queue in general at all. The server channels seem to be very active, even after curfew in my experience.
Do not send me private messages regarding game help.
Mine's on and off. I've been getting quite a number of 3-man parties(sometimes, even 2-man parties) recently, and that's in a full channel.
I tend to have problems getting at least one other person in queue during the period right after the Stamina reset. But usually by 6 PM Eastern I start seeing other people.
But given the recent news that 18k people were banned from the game over the exploit, I think there might be some correlation here. A sudden lose of 18k would be pretty significant for any MMO that isn't WoW.
Also, I'm positive Gamenote tracks numbers through PC Cafes, and I don't see that many people with PC Cafe buffs.
As for mostly being PVE centric, Maple Story is at #7 and Mabinogi Heroes/Vindictus is at #11. Both are HEAVILY PVE with minimal PVP content and can be played as single player games. So I don't think that has to do with it.
I do think the cash shop price controversy and high system requirements (CloserS is even what pushed me to finally build a new PC.) might play a significant part in it. First impressions count for a lot. And yes, the game could stand to see some grind reduction. It is pretty grindy for a modern kMMO as is. (Despite their reputation as "grindfests", most kMMOs these days have very streamlined leveling experiences with most of real grinding saved for endgame content. Speaking of which, CloserS doesn't exactly have endgame content either.) There's also the annoying boss cutscene bug where players get stuck for around ten seconds once the boss battle starts, which can lead to players getting killed that they still haven't fixed. (I got killed from it twice.)
I'm positive Naddic has some kind of long term plan seeing how long they've been working on the game. (We have after all gotten tons of updates in the five weeks the game's been OBT/launch.) But it's going to take time to iron things out.
Yeah. the game's poor optimization can't be helping things. Not everyone has a supercomputer, and this game requires way more specs than it should. I imagine most Koreans don't want to be forced to play the game at a PC cafe either. I find it odd how they have a huge update roadmap, but haven't done much to the optimization at all.
The OA grind just seems like a way to pad out the game until they have more content ready, and nothing more. That on top of the bad optimization is probably what's causing a lot of people to stop playing, myself included. This game does a lot of things right, but it's held back by everything that people have mentioned here. It could be fixed in time, but they don't seem to be making it a top priority right now.
I honestly don't see this game surviving very long if they don't fix things and it already seems that the new game hype is dying.
Yeah, I used the translate option on a few comments of the Misteltein trailer and people were whining about the grind. So that seems to be a big enough issue.
So, revised EXP tables and OA quest part 5 when, Naddic?
